Hommage to Christo
Oneshot, photographed in the Staud Studios Leonberg, 2013
René Staud’s favorite picture “Hommage to Christo” was taken in the summer of 2013 at Staud Studios in Leonberg. It is a so-called one-shot, which means that it was photographed exactly as you see it today, without any image editing. The idea for the picture came from Christo’s wish to wrap an automobile at some point in his life. Unfortunately, this wish was never fulfilled by Christo and Jeanne-Claude and due to the great esteem in which the artist couple were held, René wrapped his own Porsche 911 SC, a 1982 G-model, and staged the car photographically in the style of Christo and Jeanne-Claude.

The foil
For imitators, this packaging does not work with aluminum foil.
The foil must not crease too easily and must not shine too matt. At the time, I had a print approval and this printer was using so-called embossing foils. This material, which is used to produce cosmetic or high-gloss jewelry packaging, was over a meter wide and the film was nice and stiff and hard so that it would run through the printing machine. And I wrapped the car myself with precisely this foil, which is why this metallic paper runs so organically and doesn’t crease too much, as would be the case with aluminum foil.
