FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION

Form Follows Function

Mercedes-Benz W198 1957
Photographed at Staud Studios Leonberg, 2009

Form follows function – Bruno Sacco’s legendary credo, which shaped Mercedes-Benz design between 1975 and 1999, is revealed here in its most beautiful perfection. Captured from a height of 11 meters, this shot shows the flawless lines of the 300SL, which does not appear superfluous in any of its curves and yet shines in pure style. The perfect form of this automobile is revealed not only in its aesthetic appeal, but also in the absolute harmony between function and design. No other vehicle embodies Sacco’s quest for perfection as perfectly as the 300SL – a masterpiece in which every line breathes the essence of its purpose.
